| So we went to the beach today. . . Okay, we only went to Galveston, which has waves about as overpowering as the kidee pool at Schlitterbhan. Anyway, the water was extremely clear, surprisingly, and the waves seemed to be moving in a much more enthhusiastic flow than normal. Well, my buddy Daniel and I decided it would be a good idea to not wear any sunscreen. . . Not a good idea.
I love the beach, though. It's a cheap form of entertainment that brings an eccclectic range of people together. And although they can get overcrowded, there's something very serene about the sun, and consistent motion of waves. I love the smell of salt-water, and the way you can feel the movement of the ocean inside your body even hours after leaving. Maybe my perception is slightly skewed since I grew up in West Texas farm land, more than nine hours away from the closest beach, but I feel the same every time I go to one, and I don't think my feelings would change if lived close to one.
There was this little boy there today. He was about ten or eleven, slightly pudgy, looked a lot like I did at his age. Anyway, we were out in the water and he came right out to us and started talking. He asked us where all of these waves came from, and we responded by saying, "the moon." Apparently he thought we were nuts, because he hightailed it away from us back towards his family. Funny story.
Anyway, I'm about to go lather up with a third round of Aloe Vera, but I hope that everyone has a good weekend. And remember, if you're reading this, don't waste any more time. Go call your mom, she misses you. |
